The Defender X mr HD10 is powered by the Rotax® HD10 — a 976cc V-twin 4-stroke engine with SOHC valve actuation (8 valves, 4 per cylinder) and liquid cooling for consistent performance in demanding operating conditions. The engine produces 82 horsepower at 7,000 RPM and 69 lb-ft of torque, channeled through BRP’s Intelligent Throttle Control (iTC™) system for precise, responsive power delivery in mud, water crossings, and technical terrain.
SNORKELED ENGINE AIR INTAKE
The X mr’s engine air intake is factory-snorkeled — the intake point is raised above the engine bay to allow the vehicle to operate in deep water and mud without ingesting liquid into the combustion system. This is a defining X mr feature not found on any other Defender variant.

Transmission — PRO-TORQ CVT with Snorkeled CVT Intake
The PRO-TORQ Continuously Variable Transmission features BRP’s Quick Response System (QRS) for reduced belt slippage and rapid power transfer, Electronic Drive Belt Protection to prevent overheating and premature wear, and high-airflow ventilation. Critically for the X mr application, the CVT air intake is also factory-snorkeled — the intake and exhaust ports are repositioned to prevent mud and water from being drawn into the belt housing during submersed operation. Hi and Lo ranges are selectable, and full gear positions include Extra-Low, High, Neutral, Reverse, and Park.

Drive System — Smart-Lok™ 4-Mode with 4WD MUD X MR EXCLUSIVE
The Defender X mr HD10 features Smart-Lok™ — BRP’s electronically controlled differential locking system developed in conjunction with TEAM Industries. Unlike standard Defender trims, the X mr’s Smart-Lok can lock both the front and rear differentials simultaneously in 4WD MUD mode, providing maximum traction in the most extreme mud and water conditions. Dynamic Power Steering (DPS) is standard, automatically adjusting steering assistance based on speed and load.

The Defender X mr HD10 rides on an independent double A-arm front suspension and a Trailing Torsional A-arm HD (TTA-HD) rear suspension, delivering 10 inches of wheel travel at each corner. Both front and rear feature external stabilizer bars and preload-adjustable shocks to handle the additional weight of deep mud and water crossings. The chassis frame is profiled steel, ROPS certified for occupant protection.

The ITP Cryptid tires are purpose-built for mud — wide side lugs for sidewall traction in the ruts, aggressive open tread pattern for self-cleaning, and a bias-ply construction that flexes over rocks and roots.
